The business case should include all relevant CAPEX and OPEX elements, including hardware investment, service, software, warranties, and battery degradation. On the revenue side, both stable savings and more variable income streams must be incorporated, with a clear distinction between secure and uncertain elements.

In addition, sensitivity analyses should be conducted to show how changes in electricity prices, tariffs, usage patterns, or battery utilisation affect returns.

A realistic business case may not necessarily look the most attractive on paper, but it provides the strongest foundation for a decision that remains robust over time.

Pre-Analysis

No two companies are alike, and there is no standard BESS solution. The purpose of a pre-analysis is to clarify the company’s specific technical, operational, and market conditions before dimensioning and investment decisions are made.

As a minimum, the analysis should include historical electricity consumption, effect profiles, grid connection conditions, infrastructure, and any potential on-site generation. At the same time, physical site conditions such as space availability, access conditions, fire safety, and existing installations are assessed. These factors have a direct impact on both system design and cost.

The pre-analysis also helps identify potential constraints at an early stage. These may include grid limitations, lack of available capacity, or conditions that restrict certain use cases. The earlier these are identified, the greater the likelihood that the final solution will be both technically and economically viable.
