With a clear strategy for energy optimisation and maximising the use of the roof area, the logistics centre in Horsens was designed and built with the aim of installing a solar PV system across most of the exposed roofs.
In 2023, SolarFuture won the contract as the EPC contractor for the solar PV system and has been responsible for design, simulation, project management, and construction management.
From the outset, the project has required a strong focus on everything from logistics to procuring the right materials—an assignment we are proud to have delivered within the planned schedule and proposed budget.
In 2024, SolarFuture installed a 34.5 MW solar PV system on DSV’s logistics building in Horsens. The system is expected to be connected to the grid and handed over in the first half of 2025.
CO2 reduction & efficient generation
With total annual CO₂ savings of 5,300 tonnes, DSV demonstrates how renewable energy solutions can deliver both environmental and financial benefits.
This investment is a tangible example of how innovative energy initiatives can create value—not only for the environment, but also for the company’s core business. The solar PV system is expected to generate approximately 33 GWh per year. This corresponds to the electricity consumption of 7,300 households (or approx. 10% of the total annual electricity consumption of the business sector in Horsens Municipality)—a major step towards the green transition.
High-efficiency bifacial solar panels
The solar panels used in the PV system have been selected from among the most modern and high-performing panel types available on the market.
We have chosen panels based on bifacial technology, which, in short, features solar cells on both sides of the panel. This ensures higher power and energy output through reflection from the roof material and by utilising periods of shading.
Due to the size of the project, the panels are delivered directly from the factory, which also ensures the highest wattage outputs available for rooftop solar PV.
Tailor-made ballast systems
Our ballast systems, also known as a lightweight system, are carefully designed to optimise the use of roof surfaces without penetrating the roof membrane.
With a focus on flexibility and durability, our solutions ensure a stable and cost-effective installation that is perfectly suited to different building types and roof structures.
In the project for DSV’s logistics centre in Horsens, we used innovative ballast systems that make it possible to install the solar PV system quickly and safely. The systems are tailored to each building’s needs and support the complexity of the PV system with easy and safe handling, as well as a sustainable energy supply.
